Accounts Payable Clerk (Head office Surrey)

The role of the AP Clerk is to perform the day to day processing of accounts payable transactions to ensure that the accounts payable system is maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner.

Main Duties:

  • Receive and verify invoices for goods and services for a number of companies within the Super Save Group
  • Match invoices to supporting documents such as purchase orders and packing slips
  • Prepare batches of invoices by coding expenses to the correct general ledger accounts

Worker would be responsible for driving truck & trailer with swamper to and from job sites. Corporate Legal Counsel – In House

The Organization

As part of its ongoing growth initiative, the Super Save Group of Companies is looking to add a motivated, confident Corporate Legal Counsel to its evolving in-house legal team.  Reporting directly to the VP Finance and working with the General Counsel, you will be responsible for advising daily on the Group’s business initiatives and assisting the Group navigate its diverse and ever changing legal needs.

Who you are

You are a confident, creative, motivated self-starter.   Ideally you have 5+ years of experience in a diversified practice, preferably in a recognized law firm or industry related in-house position.  You are decisive, engaging, and are as adept at understanding and counseling on the business objectives for a particular course of action as you are the legal ramifications.  You do not say ‘no’; although you will say ‘how about another way’.  You approach every issue as if it has a solution, and you thrive on finding and implementing that solution.

What you’ll do

  • Review and advise on the Group’s very high volume of internal and external contract documents, including extensive review of requests for proposal, service agreements, standard form terms and conditions, indemnities, and insurance matters.
  • Advise daily on nationwide employment matters including:  employee management and onboarding, progressive discipline, policy compliance, Worker’s Compensation matters, severance, and terminations.
  • Oversee litigation staff responsible for managing very high volume debt collection prosecutions in Courts across Canada.
  • Collaborate daily with other business units to support the continued growth, enforcement and compliance of the Group’s ongoing operations.
  • Draft and implement corporate financing and purchase transactions and project bids.
  • Serve as the Group’s representative in negotiations, dispute resolutions, and hearings, and serve as liaison with governmental organizations nationally.
  • Manage the Group’s extensive lease and property portfolio.
  • Retain and instruct outside counsel as necessary, with a keen eye for quality service and reasonable billing.     

What you need

  • Member in Good Standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
  • 5+ years of relevant post-call experience either at a recognized law firm or in-house counsel position
  • The ability to operate efficiently and self-sufficiently, being mindful of the needs of a diversified organization operating across Canada and into the Yukon Territory.
  • Strong leadership skills, and the ability and confidence to ‘be heard’ when a matter needs to be brought forward.
  • Ability to foster a culture of respect, professionalism and understanding.
  • Willingness to ‘own the issue’ and see implemented solutions through to conclusion.
  • High personal value placed on discretion and confidentiality.
  • Reasonable proficiency in French will be considered an asset
  • Experience in any of: Employment law, Construction law, Tendering Law, and Civil Litigation Trial experience will all be considered an asset.

Litigation Representative

Who you are

You are wholly familiar with the Small Claims Court process in British Columbia.  Perhaps you have worked as a paralegal, or have experience in the litigation department of a reputable law firm.  You are confident in drafting pleadings, completing filings, attending settlement conferences, gathering evidence, preparing for and running small claims trials.  You have a strong familiarity with BC Online, with e-filing and electronic data management, and with judgment enforcement strategies and rights.  Ideally, you will also have familiarity with property management and fleet compliance matters.

What you’ll do

  • Take ownership of the Group’s extensive small claims litigation portfolio.
  • In B.C., draft, file and arrange for service of Notice of Claims, attend settlement conferences, prepare evidence, prepare witnesses, run trials (serving as necessary as witness yourself) and enforce judgments.
  • Outside of B.C., instruct outside counsel, assist in evidence preparation, and arrange for witnesses to attend in other jurisdictions.
  • Attend to electronic preparation of various land titles and other documents including: registering title, registering leases, registering liens, and discharge of same.
  • Attend to monitoring and organization of the Group’s extensive lease and property ownership portfolio.
  • Assist the General and Legal Counsel as required.   

What you need

  • Relevant, immediately transferable skills related to Small Claims litigation in British Columbia.
  • An inherent tenacity and willingness to advance tough positions in tough negotiations and settlement conference situations.
  • Familiarity with the filing protocols at the various registries in the B.C. Small Claims Court system.
  • An understanding of the principals of law regarding debtor and creditor, civil disputes, and the small claims rules
  • Unwavering organization of court dates, hearings, trials, and related deadlines
  • Willingness to take on new business related roles and responsibilities as they become required
  • Own vehicle, and willingness and ability to travel to hearings, court appearances and other attendances throughout the lower mainland (compensation provided)
  • Great phone etiquette
  • A strong ability to resolve disputes in the Group’s favour.
  • Experience as a paralegal or in a litigation law firm will be considered an asset.
